Ever wanted to transfer your paper yearbooks to a computer, but did not know a yearbook scanning service exists?
Well, it does actually, and it’s pretty neat.
What to expect from a yearbook scanning provider?
Well, probably just to convert a yearbook to digital at a very high quality. You surely want great looking images and the ability to rewind the good old days at the click of a button.
How is this possible?
It is possible because you won’t be our first customer to digitize yearbooks. We have provided scanning services for a lot of schools and also international schools. They have successfully converted their yearbooks to digital file formats.
So yes, go ahead and read this article, and we are sure you will see for yourself that our yearbook scanning service works and provides good results.
The 2 major types of yearbook scanning service
As we have mentioned above, it’s all a question if you need the material back or not. As you will see in our next paragraph, choosing between the two methods of yearbook scanning services depends on many aspects.
The Non-destructive yearbook scanning service
If you think about yearbooks they can be a one-off edition or many prints available. If the yearbook is one off or has significant value than always suggest you try our non-destructive scanning.
The scanner gently converts the book to digital files. It does not stress the binding and does not harm the document. We use 5 different book scanner types to scan yearbooks, so we always chose the best solution. The illumination is quite even and the results are very good.
The disadvantage of the non-destructive yearbook scanning service is that sometimes the binding can be a problem. It sometimes happens that because of the bad binding method, there is a lot of information in the gutter. Also, glossy paper tends to lead to reflexions that can decrease the quality of the scan. For such cases, we recommend the 2nd type of service.
The Destructive yearbook scanning service
Although it sounds scary, with this method we are just removing the binding of the yearbook. After that, we send it through our high-quality document scanners to capture all the information. After scanning, the yearbook is made of loose sheets and it can be recycled or it can be bound again.
While this service means the binding is removed, it does provide an improvement in quality. Because the paper moves straight when you scan it, the illumination is almost perfect. The colors are very accurate and the general quality of the scan is much better.
File formats for digitizing yearbooks
When you are digitizing yearbooks, the first file formats you can expect are PDF, TIFF, and Jpeg.
Of course, it does not end there. We can supply custom XML or CSV to include the images in special ECM tools or in a digital library. At the same time, we will supply an OCR version of the yearbook, so you can search easier through the scans.
If you require special formats such as EPUB or MOBI, this is also possible. We advise against using such formats, as PDF, TIFF, and JPEG are the most widespread and the easiest to include in advanced viewing software.
